So far, I've baked lots of bread and several cakes happily in the HearthKit setup The acid test came today with a batch of chocolate chip cookies. Whoa! I've never had cookies brown so evenly before. No over-browned/burnt edges on the cookies along the sides of the sheets and the same color across the tops. The next test will be a melt-in-your-mouth sugar cookie recipe I've got. I'm betting those will brown just as nicely. (Oops, I just noticed that the HearthKit picture doesn't include the wire rack that fits in the indentation in the stone, so you can do two cookie sheets at once.)
I'm going to bake another batch of chocolate chips tomorrow. Aside from the thermal gain to the house (a nice touch before the predicted winter storm arrives), I'll have cookies for the folks who will be installing my new furnace on Monday. The 30+ year old antique in the basement was deemed unreliable for another winter. (When the service guy keeps asking if you've got CO and smoke detectors, no really, do you?, you have to take that seriously. I console myself that the new super-duper high efficiency furnace, installed A/C ready, will cut the heating bills by a huge amount. And I can feel all nice and green :)
Meanwhile, I'll go work some storm voo-doo. That means starting the generator to prevent severe icing and starting the snowblower to prevent accumulation :)
ok. I'll bite. How does the generator prevent icing? oh. And I'll be over tomorrow at noon for cookies and coffee, heh. don't I wish...

We expect one or two clouds today. High of 78 low of 58. But clouds, what shall we ever do.

Well...it has turned to a dark, droll rain here. But by the time it blows across Lake Ontario, you're sure to be dumped with snow.
Here's hoping the new furnace will be the most energy efficient ever and you will be toasty warm.
